What is a chemical hose?

Chemical hose is a flexible rubber tube manufactured for safe transfer of aggressive chemicals, acids, alkalis, solvents, and so on. Due to its unique structure and materials, it's not prone to corrosion and contamination, thus it's a popular choice for all kinds of industries that need chemical-resistant fluid transport.

What are chemical hoses made of?

They are made of EPDM, UHMWPE, polyester cords, and/or steel wire. Their inner lining is transparent UPE, while middle rubber and cover are EPDM. Synthetic cords is used to reinforce chemical delivery hoses. On top of this, chemical suction and discharge hose has added steel wire reinforcement.

What types of chemicals can these hoses handle?

Chemical hose can handle strong acids, oxidizing acids, strong bases, organic solvents, and various industrial media. Concentration, temperature, pressure and contact time jointly affect its chemical compatibility. Here are some examples. Under certain conditions, the hose can transfer these following substances.
Acid: nitric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, acetic acid, citric acid
Alkali: potassium hydroxide, caustic soda, ammonium hydroxide
Solvent: toluene, methanol, ethanol, acetone
Oil: gasoline, diesel fuel, silicone oil
Other industrial media: sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide

How do I choose the right chemical hose for my application?

First and most importantly, you need to identify what the chemical hose is going to transfer, and whether it's a single substance or mixture. Then, clearly define the concentration and temperature of the medium. Even for the same chemical, different concentrations can result in significant differences in corrosiveness, oxidizability, toxicity, and other properties. 

Next, make sure key parameters like the hose's working pressure, inner diameter, and length match your requirements.

To enable us to better design the hose structure and formulate the rubber compound, ensuring sufficient flexibility, strength, chemical resistance, and even conductivity, you should also confirm external environmental factors. For example, whether the hose will be continuously exposed to ozone, ultraviolet, extreme weather, moisture, or flammable and explosive environments, as well as whether it will be subjected to crushing, abrasion, bending, twisting, or frequent movement.
